The average import price for swine bellies (salted, in brine, dried or smoked) stood at $5,658 per ton in October 2023, dropping by -6.5% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 8.5% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $6,446 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to October 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($9,667 per ton), while the price for Poland ($2,126 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
