Price for Seafood Meals and Pellets in Australia (CIF) - 2023
The average seafood meals and pellets import price stood at $1,370 per ton in July 2023, falling by -28.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2023 an increase of 26% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $1,912 per ton in June 2023, and then fell remarkably in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($2,083 per ton), while the price for Denmark ($850 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average seafood meals and pellets export price stood at $1,442 per ton in 2022, dropping by -28.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 159%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $2,505 per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($3,817 per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($988 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to New Zealand (+6.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Imports of Seafood Meals and Pellets in Australia
Seafood meals and pellets imports into Australia amounted to 32K tons in 2022, growing by 13% compared with the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years.
