In June 2023, the average smoked fish, incl. fillets import price amounted to $22,200 per ton, picking up by 7.2% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a tangible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 when the average import price increased by 194% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in June 2023.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from Germany ($24,179 per ton) and Belgium ($23,624 per ton), while the price for Denmark ($16,609 per ton) and the Netherlands ($16,914 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+7.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average smoked fish, incl. fillets export price stood at $17,606 per ton in June 2023, increasing by 18% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated a remarkable increase from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +7.1% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, smoked fish, incl. fillets export price decreased by -3.0% against April 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 99% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $18,157 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($79,612 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cyprus ($4,604 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+30.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of smoked fish, incl. fillets was finally on the rise to reach 2.3K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, showed a abrupt downturn.
