The average smoked fish, incl. fillets import price stood at $10,319 per ton in March 2024, picking up by 51% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +4.7%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In March 2024, the country with the highest price was Germany ($25,689 per ton), while the price for Lithuania ($5,934 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From March 2023 to March 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+7.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average smoked fish, incl. fillets export price stood at $7,244 per ton in March 2024, approximately mirroring the previous month. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 34% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $9,177 per ton in August 2023; however, from September 2023 to March 2024, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($14,231 per ton), while the average price for exports to Lithuania ($6,321 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From March 2023 to March 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Smoked Fish, Incl. Fillets in Latvia

For the fourth year in a row, Latvia recorded growth in overseas purchases of smoked fish, incl. fillets, which increased by 13% to 422 tons in 2022. In general, imports posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 66% against the previous year.
