In 2022, the average import price for spices; cardamoms, crushed or ground amounted to $19,174 per ton, which is down by -24.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 125% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $25,558 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($25,019 per ton), while the price for Guatemala ($15,336 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2014 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+34.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. From 2014 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Georgia (+28.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of spices; cardamoms, crushed or ground, when their volume decreased by -15.1% to 265 kg. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 101% against the previous year.

In value terms, spices; cardamoms, crushed or ground imports reduced notably to $5.1K in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 145% against the previous year.
