The average import price for spices; cardamoms, neither crushed nor ground stood at $14,776 per ton in 2022, waning by -6.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a moderate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 62% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $17,307 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were India ($16,291 per ton) and the United Arab Emirates ($15,706 per ton), while the price for Guatemala ($13,750 per ton) and Singapore ($15,327 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bhutan (+29.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
