In 2022, the average import price for spices; cardamoms, neither crushed nor ground amounted to $17,127 per ton, rising by 11% against the previous year. In general, the import price posted a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 86%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $19,299 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($25,485 per ton), while the price for Guatemala ($9,555 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+16.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $18,574 per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($18,495 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany stood at $9,364 per ton.

From 2019 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (-49.6%).

In 2022, approx. 934 tons of spices; cardamoms, neither crushed nor ground were imported into Iraq; with a decrease of -13.5% on 2021 figures.
