In July 2023, the average import price for spices; cardamoms, neither crushed nor ground amounted to $6,407 per ton, jumping by 19% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 81% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $10,450 per ton. From January 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Guatemala ($7,171 per ton), while the price for Vietnam totaled $3,515 per ton.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nepal (+6.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average export price for spices; cardamoms, neither crushed nor ground amounted to $20,125 per ton, increasing by 7.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price posted prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 2,854%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Greece ($54,814 per ton), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($6,681 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Oman (+57.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Spices; Cardamoms, Neither Crushed Nor Ground in Pakistan

In 2022, approx. 2.9K tons of spices; cardamoms, neither crushed nor ground were imported into Pakistan; with a decrease of -21.4% against 2021. In general, imports saw a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 36%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 3.6K tons, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, imports of spices; cardamoms, neither crushed nor ground contracted to $23M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion.
