The average import price for spices; cinnamon and cinnamon-tree flowers, crushed or ground stood at $3,873 per ton in 2022, picking up by 3.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, import price for spices; cinnamon and cinnamon-tree flowers, crushed or ground decreased by -0.3% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 27% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $3,885 per ton in 2020; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($8,221 per ton), while the price for China ($2,537 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+12.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of spices; cinnamon and cinnamon-tree flowers, crushed or ground decreased by -55.5% to 152 tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a perceptible expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 80%.
