In November 2023, the average import price for spices; cloves (whole fruit, cloves and stems), neither crushed nor ground amounted to $9,029 per ton, shrinking by -8.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2023 an increase of 127% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $10,413 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to November 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($12,388 per ton), while the price for Sri Lanka ($4,785 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tanzania (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
