In 2022, the average import price for spices; cloves (whole fruit, cloves and stems) amounted to $3,583 per ton, with an increase of 8.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 109%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $9,171 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($28,021 per ton), while the price for India ($344 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+10.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
