The average import price for spices; ginger, crushed or ground stood at $4,477 per ton in 2022, approximately mirroring the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $8,873 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($26,131 per ton), while the average price for exports to Greece ($3,736 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+15.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Spices; Ginger, Crushed or Ground in Bulgaria

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of spices; ginger, crushed or ground decreased by -3.9% to 39 tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +17.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +62.3% against 2019 indices.
