The average import price for spices; ginger, crushed or ground stood at $4,687 per ton in June 2023, waning by -1.9% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated notable growth from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.4% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, spices; ginger, crushed or ground import price decreased by -39.1% against April 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 97% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $7,697 per ton. From May 2023 to June 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was India ($7,210 per ton), while the price for Cote d'Ivoire ($763 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+8.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In general, the export price continues to indicate a measured increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2023 an increase of 35% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $11,823 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($19,218 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($6,643 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+17.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas purchases of spices; ginger, crushed or ground decreased by -4.7% to 674 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth.
