The average import price for spices; nutmeg, crushed or ground stood at $16,162 per ton in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 36%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $22,443 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($21,248 per ton), while the price for Indonesia totaled $10,060 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+66.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports of Spices; Nutmeg, Crushed or Ground in Peru

After three years of growth, overseas purchases of spices; nutmeg, crushed or ground decreased by -18.4% to 2.5 tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 117% against the previous year.

In value terms, spices; nutmeg, crushed or ground imports declined sharply to $40K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 74% against the previous year.
