In March 2022, the average export price for spices; nutmeg, neither crushed nor ground amounted to $6,332 per ton, with an increase of 2.4% against the previous month. Over the period from March 2021 to March 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4%. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2022 when the average export price increased by 27% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $6,783 per ton. From February 2022 to March 2022, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In March 2022, the country with the highest price was Japan ($12,864 per ton), while the average price for exports to Jordan ($1,900 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From March 2021 to March 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Morocco (+35.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In general, the import price, however, showed a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average import price increased by 37%. The import price peaked at $11,307 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($41,199 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($909 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+33.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

After three years of growth, overseas shipments of spices; nutmeg, neither crushed nor ground decreased by -26.5% to 14K tons in 2022.
