The average import price for spices; vanilla, crushed or ground stood at $64,494 per ton in 2022, shrinking by -9.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 62% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $83,431 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($105,517 per ton), while the price for Israel ($3,395 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Madagascar (+17.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for spices; vanilla, crushed or ground stood at $52,755 per ton in June 2023, waning by -1.6% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, saw a measured expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 an increase of 166% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $65,383 per ton. From February 2023 to June 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was France ($79,994 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Dominican Republic ($19,358 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+12.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
