In 2022, the average import price for vanilla amounted to $176,496 per ton, which is down by -15.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 138%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $399,506 per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($385,538 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($80,000 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2014 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (+16.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of vanilla decreased by -46.5% to 123 kg in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 126% against the previous year.
In value terms, imports of vanilla contracted notably to $22K in 2022. In general, imports saw a abrupt downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year.
