In December 2023, the average import price for stainless steel bars and rods, angles, shapes and sectionses amounted to $5,044 per ton, rising by 2.5% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a mild expansion from December 2022 to December 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2023 figures, import price for stainless steel bars and rods, angles, shapes and sectionses decreased by -3.7% against October 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in September 2023 when the average import price increased by 52% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $6,428 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to December 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($24,952 per ton), while the price for China ($3,374 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Oman (0.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $5,356 per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($10,025 per ton), while the average price for exports to Papua New Guinea ($2,222 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Norfolk Island (+92.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
