In October 2023, the average import price for stainless steel bars and rods, angles, shapes and sectionses amounted to $3,442 per ton, falling by -41% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 when the average import price increased by 28% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $6,128 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to October 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($4,220 per ton), while the price for India totaled $3,374 per ton.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, export price indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 112%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $4,904 per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($5,586 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($2,480 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
