The average import price for stainless steel bars and rods, angles, shapes and sectionses stood at $7,427 per ton in December 2023, with an increase of 6.1% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 8.4% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $8,498 per ton. From February 2023 to December 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($15,554 per ton), while the price for India ($3,558 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average export price for stainless steel bars and rods, angles, shapes and sectionses stood at $7,233 per ton in December 2023, picking up by 6.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 an increase of 8.4% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $8,165 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to December 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($13,450 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($4,909 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
