In 2022, the average import price for stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms amounted to $2,370 per ton, falling by -39.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, posted a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 83% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $5,186 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($7,865 per ton), while the price for Iran ($586 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+27.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Stainless Steel; Flat-Rolled Products of Width Less than 600mm in Iraq
After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms decreased by -9.5% to 263 tons in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +15.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +53.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 50% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 291 tons, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, imports of stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms declined rapidly to $624K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 92%.
