In August 2023, the average import price for stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms amounted to $3,014 per ton, reducing by -3.9% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 14% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $3,319 per ton. From May 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($11,256 per ton), while the price for China ($2,418 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Finland (+4.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms stood at $4,202 per ton in 2022, picking up by 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms increased by +62.8% against 2020 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($9,545 per ton), while the average price for exports to Sweden ($1,820 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+11.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 14% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 101K tons, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, imports of stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms skyrocketed to $294M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +19.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +72.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 42% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
