In May 2024, the average export price for stainless steel, flat-rolled, width less than 600mm, cold-rolleds amounted to $7,463 per ton, picking up by 2.2% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in July 2023 when the average export price increased by 15% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $8,993 per ton. From August 2023 to May 2024, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In May 2024, the country with the highest price was Italy ($48,226 per ton), while the average price for exports to South Africa ($2,611 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2023 to May 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In May 2024, the average import price for stainless steel, flat-rolled, width less than 600mm, cold-rolleds amounted to $4,520 per ton, leveling off at the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a slight descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2023 when the average import price increased by 51% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $6,652 per ton. From January 2024 to May 2024, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2024, the country with the highest price was the United States ($41,097 per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($2,138 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2023 to May 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (-1.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +18.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +64.3% against 2019 indices.
