The average export price for stainless steel, flat-rolled, width less than 600mm, cold-rolleds stood at $8,706 per ton in May 2024, reducing by -13.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a perceptible setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2023 when the average export price increased by 24% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $11,534 per ton in August 2023; however, from September 2023 to May 2024, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In May 2024, the country with the highest price was Italy ($41,759 per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($4,770 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2023 to May 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+2.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for stainless steel, flat-rolled, width less than 600mm, cold-rolleds stood at $4,338 per ton in May 2024, surging by 5.6% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2023 an increase of 6.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $4,930 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to May 2024, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2024, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($8,765 per ton), while the price for Thailand ($2,299 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2023 to May 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Overall, total exports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +20.0% over the last three-year period.
