In May 2024, the average import price for stainless steel, flat-rolled, width less than 600mm, cold-rolleds amounted to $2,108 per ton, which is down by -7.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a mild slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2024 when the average import price increased by 20% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $2,529 per ton in December 2023; however, from January 2024 to May 2024, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($6,459 per ton), while the price for China ($1,764 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2023 to May 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In May 2024, the average export price for stainless steel, flat-rolled, width less than 600mm, cold-rolleds amounted to $2,026 per ton, declining by -12.7% against the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2023 an increase of 31% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $2,660 per ton. From August 2023 to May 2024, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In May 2024, the country with the highest price was Serbia ($2,970 per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($1,706 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2023 to May 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovenia (-0.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Imports of Stainless Steel, Flat-Rolled, Width Less than 600mm, Cold-Rolled in Turkey
In 2022, purchases abroad of stainless steel, flat-rolled, width less than 600mm, cold-rolleds decreased by -10.8% to 80K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +34.9% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 37%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 90K tons, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, imports of stainless steel, flat-rolled, width less than 600mm, cold-rolleds expanded significantly to $237M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 71%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

For the fourth year in a row, Turkey recorded growth in shipments abroad of stainless steel, flat-rolled, width less than 600mm, cold-rolleds, which increased by 24% to 16K tons in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +15.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +54.8% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, exports of stainless steel, flat-rolled, width less than 600mm, cold-rolleds skyrocketed to $42M in 2022. Overall, exports recorded significant growth. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
