The average import price for steel, alloy; angles, shapes and sectionses stood at $1,241 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, import price for steel, alloy; angles, shapes and sectionses increased by +102.4% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 63%. The import price peaked at $1,336 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($2,751 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($1,153 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 19% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,576 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to January 2024, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for the United States.
From January 2023 to January 2024, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Cuba amounted to -0.0% per month.

After three years of growth, overseas purchases of steel, alloy; angles, shapes and sectionses decreased by -3.5% to 63K tons in 2022. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 167%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
