The average export price for steel, alloy stood at $899 per ton in November 2023, dropping by -2.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 15% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1,005 per ton. From May 2023 to November 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,643 per ton), while the average price for exports to Egypt ($439 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Egypt (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In October 2023, the average import price for steel, alloy amounted to $1,026 per ton, dropping by -2.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2023 when the average import price increased by 26% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $1,105 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to October 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for the UK.
From January 2023 to October 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Spain amounted to +4.5% per month.
