The average import price for steel, alloy stood at $703 per ton in January 2024, which is down by -4.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in September 2023 when the average import price increased by 10% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $752 per ton in November 2023; however, from December 2023 to January 2024, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was Japan ($727 per ton), while the price for China ($602 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From March 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (-0.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
