The average import price for steel, alloy stood at $1,717 per ton in December 2023, picking up by 3.5% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2023 when the average import price increased by 49% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $3,717 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to December 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Finland ($2,331 per ton), while the price for China ($1,186 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Finland (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2021, the average export price for steel, alloy amounted to $1,682 per ton, with a decrease of -31.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a noticeable shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 91%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $2,455 per ton, and then declined notably in the following year.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Brazil.
