In December 2023, the average import price for steel, alloy amounted to $1,169 per ton, declining by -42% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a deep downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2023 an increase of 139% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $2,746 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to December 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($2,744 per ton), while the price for Russia ($833 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2023 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+26.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was growth in overseas purchases of steel, alloy, when their volume increased by 2.9% to 514 tons. Overall, imports, however, faced a sharp slump.
In value terms, imports of steel, alloy soared to $1.2M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a significant contraction.
