The average import price for steel, alloy stood at $3,574 per ton in December 2023, reducing by -6.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 101% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $7,655 per ton. From February 2023 to December 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was India ($22,734 per ton), while the price for Brazil ($1,204 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+14.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for steel, alloy amounted to $2,845 per ton, increasing by 7.6% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for steel, alloy increased by +64.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 42% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($3,949 per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovenia ($781 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Pakistan (+11.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
