Price for Steel, Alloy; Ingots and Other Primary Forms in India (CIF) - 2023

The average import price for steel, alloy; ingots and other primary formses stood at $1,376 per ton in July 2023, surging by 1.5% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a slight slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2023 when the average import price increased by 310% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $2,805 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to July 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Italy.

From November 2022 to July 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Turkey amounted to +1.8% per month.

The average export price for steel, alloy; ingots and other primary formses stood at $3,565 per ton in 2022, declining by -12.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 150% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $4,068 per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($5,408 per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($1,810 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+17.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of steel, alloy; ingots and other primary formses, when their volume decreased by -34.5% to 8.8K tons. In general, total imports indicated notable growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 48%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 13K tons, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, imports of steel, alloy; ingots and other primary formses reduced rapidly to $12M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +28.0% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 71%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $17M, and then declined significantly in the following year.
