In March 2022, the average steel, alloy; semi-finished products import price amounted to $975 per ton, with an increase of 35% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated temperate growth from March 2021 to March 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.8% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on March 2022 figures, steel, alloy; semi-finished products import price increased by +35.3% against February 2022 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was China ($1,288 per ton), while the price for Japan ($794 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2021 to March 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $62,240 per ton, and then reduced notably in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($13,151 per ton), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($7,019 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+45.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of steel, alloy; semi-finished productses decreased by -34.4% to 32K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
