Price for Steel, Alloy; Semi-Finished Products in Russia (FOB) - 2022

In January 2022, the average steel, alloy; semi-finished products export price amounted to $726 per ton, falling by -1.7% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated a noticeable expansion from January 2021 to January 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.6% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on January 2022 figures, steel, alloy; semi-finished products export price decreased by -16.9% against October 2021 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2021 when the average export price increased by 15% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $873 per ton in October 2021; however, from November 2021 to January 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In January 2022, the countries with the highest prices were the United States ($863 per ton) and Denmark ($853 per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($602 per ton) and Mexico ($678 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Denmark (+10.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average steel, alloy; semi-finished products import price stood at $1,743 per ton in 2022, falling by -15.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a perceptible decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 63%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $2,440 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($2,281 per ton), while the price for China ($1,368 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+19.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Exports of Steel, Alloy; Semi-Finished Products in Russia

After three years of growth, shipments abroad of steel, alloy; semi-finished productses decreased by -26.2% to 645K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 110%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 874K tons, and then declined markedly in the following year.

In value terms, steel, alloy; semi-finished products exports shrank significantly to $390M in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 226%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $597M, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +59.9% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, steel, alloy; semi-finished products imports soared to $4.2M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated tangible growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -19.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 41% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $5.2M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
