Price for Steel, Alloy; Semi-Finished Products in the Czech Republic (FOB) - 2023

The average steel, alloy; semi-finished products export price stood at $1,440 per ton in July 2023, increasing by 3.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2022 when the average export price increased by 12% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $1,485 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($4,252 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($908 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia (+9.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In July 2023, the average steel, alloy; semi-finished products import price amounted to $1,727 per ton, declining by -26% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2022 an increase of 67% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $2,867 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to July 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($5,768 per ton), while the price for Italy ($1,203 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+24.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Steel, Alloy; Semi-Finished Products in the Czech Republic

For the third year in a row, the Czech Republic recorded decline in overseas shipments of steel, alloy; semi-finished productses, which decreased by -25.9% to 70K tons in 2022. In general, exports saw a abrupt downturn. The smallest decline of -7.6% was in 2021.

In value terms, steel, alloy; semi-finished products exports amounted to $101M in 2022. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 26%.

Imports of Steel, Alloy; Semi-Finished Products in the Czech Republic

For the fourth consecutive year, the Czech Republic recorded growth in purchases abroad of steel, alloy; semi-finished productses, which increased by 31% to 18K tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +16.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +58.6% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, steel, alloy; semi-finished products imports soared to $26M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +15.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +75.9% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
