In February 2024, the average import price for steel, stainless amounted to $2,491 per ton, falling by -12.7% against the previous month. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2023 when the average import price increased by 45% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $3,414 per ton. From November 2023 to February 2024, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In February 2024, the country with the highest price was India ($2,393 per ton), while the price for China amounted to $2,353 per ton.
From March 2023 to February 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (-0.3%).

The average export price for steel, stainless stood at $9,048 per ton in 2022, shrinking by -23.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a significant contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 58% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $111,696 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($40,000 per ton), while the average price for exports to Paraguay ($6,799 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+27.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
