In December 2023, the average export price for steel, stainless amounted to $5,167 per ton, rising by 57% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The export price peaked at $5,557 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to December 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($18,758 per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovakia ($1,901 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+6.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In December 2023, the average import price for steel, stainless amounted to $6,795 per ton, increasing by 15% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2023 when the average import price increased by 51% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $7,827 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to December 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was India ($26,105 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($3,913 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+15.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Steel, Stainless; Angles, Shapes and Sections in Germany
Exports of steel, stainless from Germany skyrocketed to 26K tons in 2022, picking up by 37% on the year before. Over the period under review, exports posted a significant increase. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +45.0% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
