In December 2022, the average import price for steel, stainless amounted to $9,642 per ton, dropping by -12% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a perceptible shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2022 when the average import price increased by 136% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $19,339 per ton. From March 2022 to December 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($20,962 per ton), while the price for Italy ($3,038 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+39.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average export price for steel, stainless stood at $11,378 per ton in 2022, rising by 41% against the previous year. In general, the export price enjoyed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 192%. The export price peaked at $13,317 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($19,819 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cote d'Ivoire ($3,369 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cote d'Ivoire (+14.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
