In January 2024, the average export price for steel, stainless amounted to $5,295 per ton, growing by 36% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated measured growth from February 2023 to January 2024: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.6% over the last eleven-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on January 2024 figures, export price for steel, stainless increased by +75.4% against July 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2023 an increase of 72% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $5,598 per ton. From June 2023 to January 2024, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was Germany ($10,481 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mauritania ($1,883 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In January 2024, the average import price for steel, stainless amounted to $2,947 per ton, waning by -57.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 an increase of 54% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $7,723 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to January 2024, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($10,266 per ton), while the price for India amounted to $2,524 per ton.
From February 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, shipments abroad of steel, stainless was finally on the rise to reach 2.7K tons after two years of decline. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, exports of steel, stainless soared to $14M in 2022. Overall, exports showed strong growth. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of steel, stainless rose slightly to $8.6M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +17.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +61.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
