The average export price for steel, stainless; ingots and other primary formses stood at $433 per ton in 2022, declining by -19.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a dramatic curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average export price increased by 82%. The export price peaked at $5,487 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Democratic Republic of the Congo ($434 per ton), while the average price for exports to Zambia amounted to $128 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Democratic Republic of the Congo (-24.9%).

The average import price for steel, stainless; ingots and other primary formses stood at $5,199 per ton in 2022, waning by -7.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average import price increased by 72% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $5,966 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($5,462 per ton), while the price for China amounted to $4,172 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

For the fourth year in a row, Tanzania recorded growth in shipments abroad of steel, stainless; ingots and other primary formses, which increased by 20% to 59 tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a significant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +20.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +73.3% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, exports of steel, stainless; ingots and other primary formses declined to $25K in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a noticeable slump. The smallest decline of -3% was in 2020.
