Price for Steel, Stainless; Ingots and Other Primary Forms in the United States (FOB) - 2022

The average export price for steel, stainless; ingots and other primary formses stood at $6,204 per ton in 2022, jumping by 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($30,266 per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($2,902 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+15.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price peaked at $4,171 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to December 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Australia ($15,540 per ton), while the price for Canada amounted to $3,235 per ton.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+18.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
