The average import price for steel, stainless; semi-finished products, other than of rectangular cross-sectia stood at $4,450 per ton in December 2023, waning by -4.5% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 25% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $5,329 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to December 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Spain ($14,811 per ton), while the price for the UK ($2,945 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, the export price, however, recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 68%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $11,092 per ton in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($33,574 per ton), while the average price for exports to Honduras ($2,978 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+36.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
