In October 2023, the average import price for steel, stainless; semi-finished products, other than of rectangular cross-sectia amounted to $5,149 per ton, increasing by 5.9% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 6.1% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $6,263 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to October 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from Italy ($5,943 per ton) and India ($4,840 per ton), while the price for China ($4,750 per ton) and Sweden ($4,804 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (-0.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average export price for steel, stainless; semi-finished products, other than of rectangular cross-sectia stood at $6,756 per ton in 2022, jumping by 46% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a abrupt decline. The export price peaked at $12,501 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($7,486 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($4,210 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+35.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Steel, Stainless; Semi-Finished Products, Other than of Rectangular Cross-Section in Ukraine

In 2022, approx. 4.3K tons of steel, stainless; semi-finished products, other than of rectangular cross-sectia were imported into Ukraine; picking up by 2.5% on the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, recorded a perceptible setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 5.9K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, imports of steel, stainless; semi-finished products, other than of rectangular cross-sectia soared to $25M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +9.6% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
