The average import price for steel, stainless; semi-finished products, other than of rectangular cross-sectia stood at $3,094 per ton in December 2022, increasing by 13% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a slight contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2022 when the average import price increased by 59% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $5,269 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to December 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2022, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($3,340 per ton), while the price for India ($3,074 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+7.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average export price for steel, stainless; semi-finished products, other than of rectangular cross-sectia stood at $7,189 per ton in 2022, dropping by -6.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 60%. The export price peaked at $7,699 per ton in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Taiwan (Chinese).
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Taiwan (Chinese) amounted to +8.6% per year.

In 2022, the amount of steel, stainless; semi-finished products, other than of rectangular cross-sectia imported into Vietnam rose remarkably to 6.8K tons, increasing by 12% compared with 2021. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 157% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, imports of steel, stainless; semi-finished products, other than of rectangular cross-sectia soared to $23M in 2022. Overall, imports posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 155%.
