The average export price for sugar confectionery; (excluding chewing gum, including white chocolate), not containing cocoa stood at $3,066 per ton in October 2023, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 11% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $3,187 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to October 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($5,018 per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($1,228 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Australia (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In October 2023, the average import price for sugar confectionery; (excluding chewing gum, including white chocolate), not containing cocoa amounted to $3,623 per ton, increasing by 8.4% against the previous month. Over the last ten-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 15% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $3,732 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to October 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Singapore ($5,229 per ton), while the price for China ($2,530 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the amount of sugar confectionery; (excluding chewing gum, including white chocolate), not containing cocoa exported from Malaysia surged to 47K tons, with an increase of 55% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +62.1% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, exports of sugar confectionery; (excluding chewing gum, including white chocolate), not containing cocoa soared to $94M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
