The average import price for sugars; fructose, chemically pure, in solid form stood at $1,707 per ton in September 2023, waning by -2.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a buoyant expansion from December 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +5.2% over the last nine months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, import price for sugars; fructose, chemically pure, in solid form decreased by -4.3% against July 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 37% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $1,785 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Turkey.

From December 2022 to September 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Turkey amounted to +5.3% per month.

The average export price for sugars; fructose, chemically pure, in solid form stood at $1,687 per ton in August 2023, falling by -8.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated notable growth from November 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.1% over the last nine-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, export price for sugars; fructose, chemically pure, in solid form decreased by -11.3% against April 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 47% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,901 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Poland ($1,891 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cyprus ($1,328 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+6.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the fourth year in a row, Bulgaria recorded growth in purchases abroad of sugars; fructose, chemically pure, in solid form, which increased by 39% to 2.7K tons in 2022. Overall, imports showed a significant increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In general, total imports indicated a noticeable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
