In 2022, the average import price for textile fabrics; impregnated, coated, covered or laminated with polyurethanes amounted to $2.7 per square meter, increasing by 26% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 87%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $8.8 per square meter. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($5.9 per square meter), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($1.5 per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+13.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Imports of Textile Fabrics; Impregnated, Coated, Covered or Laminated with Polyurethane in Uganda
In 2022, overseas purchases of textile fabrics; impregnated, coated, covered or laminated with polyurethanes increased by 8.5% to 98K square meters for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a abrupt slump. Imports peaked at 146K square meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, imports of textile fabrics; impregnated, coated, covered or laminated with polyurethanes soared to $259K in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a mild decline. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at $271K in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
