In August 2023, the average import price for tobacco, (not stemmed or stripped)s amounted to $6,110 per ton, shrinking by -25.2% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2023 an increase of 50% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $8,166 per ton in July 2023, and then dropped rapidly in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Dominican Republic ($12,690 per ton), while the price for Canada ($4,060 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Paraguay (+26.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In general, export price indicated a pronounced expansion from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.4% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, tobacco, (not stemmed or stripped) export price increased by +40.9% against March 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2022 an increase of 96% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $19,530 per ton. From November 2022 to August 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($22,500 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($9,150 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+8.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
