In 2022, the average export price for tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped amounted to $3,758 per ton, surging by 18% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild contraction. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $4,811 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($3,882 per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($2,984 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+33.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Over the period under review, the import price posted a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 375%. The import price peaked at $5,444 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Bangladesh ($5,805 per ton), while the price for India ($3,018 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 43%. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
