In March 2022, the average import price for tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped amounted to $4,794 per ton, flattening at the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a mild reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2021 when the average import price increased by 23% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $6,063 per ton. From June 2021 to March 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In March 2022, the country with the highest price was the United States ($9,185 per ton), while the price for the Philippines ($2,886 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From March 2021 to March 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Croatia (+21.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 21%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $6,937 per ton in 2021, and then shrank notably in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($43,262 per ton), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($559 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+21.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
